If you don’t think East Carolina needs to win tonight’s game against UNC in the worst way, you have no handle on the intra-state dynamics of this game.
Tonight’s game may truly be the most important contest between these two teams that has ever been played.
Starting with the basic in-season implications. For the Pirates, this game gives them the opportunity to level their record at 2-2 and legitimize themselves as a real CUSA contender.
For UNC, this game will define them as a program on its last legs pre-NCAA penalties, or a team that can withstand its own implosion to succeed in the face of self-inflicted adversity.
On a larger scale, with UNC toeing the NCAA abyss, for the first time, recruiting could very well tip ECU’s way for a few of the high profile in-staters with a convincing win over the Tar Heels. Further, whether we like it or not, a win over an ACC team couldn’t hurt right now in terms of raising awareness of what we have in Greenville as the Big 12 and the Big East jockey for their own futures.
Yep, this is a big one tonight.
